Herbertson, KathleenSeptember 7, 1920 May 12, 2017A Memorial Service for Mrs. Kathleen Herbertson will be held at 11:30a.m. Thursday June 1, 2017 in South Jacksonville Presbyterian Church with Rev. Susan Takis of First Presbyterian Church of Wildwood, FL officiating.Kathleen was born in Charleston, S.C. to Helen and Walter Hillen. It was there she met and married a Citadel graduate, David S. Herbertson. They were married for 60 years living 50 years in Jacksonville. Kathleen was a devoted wife and homemaker, an excellent cook (always ready to prepare a meal for someone), a good seamstress, a wonderful teacher and always involved in her childrens activities both at church and school. She was a member of South Jacksonville Presbyterian Church for more than 50 years and was a tireless volunteer always willing to help wherever she was needed. You could find her in the kitchen ready to serve or in the church office folding bulletins. A Sunday School teacher, a Womens Circle leader, a Bible leader, a Meals on Wheels volunteer were a few of her outreach ministries. She was awarded the Honorary Presbyterian Womens Life Membership for outstanding service spanning over 30 years.Kathleen was an avid reader, also enjoying bridge, sewing, painting and crossword puzzles. Her most joyous times were spent with her family such as family vacations, card playing, dominos and board games. She was always willing to teach a "newcomer" bridge and other card games. She was quick to find humor and laughter in these situations and everyday life. Just being around her made you feel good. Kathleen and Dave claimed Franklin, N.C. their second home. They built a cabin and shared their love of the beautiful, peaceful mountains with family and friends for many wonderful and happy years.Kathleen is survived by her two children, David H. Herbertson (Ann), Lincolnton, N.C., Kay Gillrup (Ted), Jacksonville, FL, four grandchildren Kirk Herbertson, Lincolnton, N.C., Carol Eason (Tim) Lincolnton, N.C., Ashley Harper (Shaun) Franklin, N.C., Todd Gillrup (Laura), Jacksonville, FL, and two great grands, Michael Suarez, Jacksonville, FL, and Esteban Gillrup, Jacksonville, FL. She lived 96 wonderful years and will be missed by many, especially her family.Our thanks go out to the many dedicated and caring staff at Life Care of Orange Park for their love, kindness and care.
