Katie Reed Marjenhoff passed away peacefully in her home, at the age of 89, in Jacksonville, Florida, on the evening of February 25, 2025.Born in Vienna, Georgia, on October 24, 1935, Katie was the firstborn of 8 children to the late Evelyn Hardy Reed and Hoke Smith Reed, Sr. She is survived by her daughter, Donna Marjenhoff Peterson, her gandson, Chad Peterson, her grandaughter, Katie Elizabeth Peterson, and her great-grandson, Wolfram Peterson. She is also survived by 1 sister and 3 brothers, Linda Reed Jones, Hardy Reed, Larry Reed, and Freddie Reed.Katie had two families; Her biological family and a neighboring family, Mr. and Mrs. John Needham Hargrove (Mr. Johnnie and Miss Bessie), who were also her benefactors and took a special interest in her when she was 3 years old. They sent her to Mercer University, where she received a double major in English and Speech & Drama.A dedicated educator, Katie earned her masters degree at the University of North Florida (UNF) and spent her career teaching in Duval County Public Schools, where she inspired generations of students with her knowledge, patience, and love of learning. She was passionate about education for 57 years and took great pride in shaping young minds.A faithful follower of Jesus Christ, Katie was a member of First Baptist Church in Jacksonville, Florida for 45 years. She had the gift of giving and she loved her sunday school class and her pastors.Katies warmth, wisdom, and kindness will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.A service to honor her life will be held on Thursday, March 13, 2025 in the West Hall of First Baptist Church at 125 West Ashley Street, Jacksonville, Florida 32202. Visitation will start at 3:00 p.m. with a service to follow at 4:00 p.m.
