Ken was born in Chicago, IL to Donald and Hazel (Kross) Moffatt. Sheryl was born in Rockford, IL to Carroll and Doris (Nygren) Noreen.Ken was a devoted, loyal, and loving son, husband, father, grandfather, friend, and Vietnam veteran. He is survived by his brother Donald Moffatt, his children Scott Moffatt (spouse Katrina) and Britt (Moffatt) Boerigter (husband Doug), his 7 grandchildren; Alexia, Scott Jr, Carolina, Cecilia, Sophia, Serena, Abigail, numerous nieces, nephews, and many, many dear friends.Sheryl was a wonderful, friendly, outgoing, and faithfully loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to hundreds. She is survived by her mother Doris Noreen, sister Beverly (Noreen) Blumenshine, and the children and grandchildren listed above. Ken and Sheryl were married on September 26, 1964 at First Covenant Church in Rockford, IL. They were just months away from celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary.Ken graduated from Calumet High School on Chicagos Southside and earned a degree in Economics from North Park University in Chicago where he played varsity football. He was commissioned as a 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Army and served one tour in Vietnam. Upon returning home, Ken earned his Masters Degree in School Counseling from Northeastern Illinois University. Ken was a dedicated educator and served for 36 years at the same school, Frederick Douglass Academy, in the Austin area of Chicagos Westside. Ken loved all sports, especially the Chicago Cubs, Bears and Bulls, and became a Florida Gator fan upon moving to Gainesville. He served as an elder at First Presbyterian Church in River Forest, IL and went on multiple mission trips to Mexico with men from the church. He was active at Faith Presbyterian in Gainesville, in their Empty Nesters group, teaching VBS, mens bible study, and more. He was quiet and reserved except when on stage for community musicals, church VBS, family skits, and bible dramas. In his retirement, he enjoyed reading, particularly spy and war stories. He attended every sporting event and school production for his grandchildren and helped with homeschooling every Monday for the past several years. Sheryl graduated from East High School in Rockford, IL and started college at North Park University, where the couple met, before completing her degree in Elementary Education from Northeastern Illinois University. She also earned her Masters in Social Work from the University of Illinois at Chicago. As a new wife, Sheryl began her working career as an elementary school teacher before working in both hospitals and schools as a Social Worker. All of her many careers involved helping people who were vulnerable or underserved, including her weekly volunteering at Sira Gainesville, a Christian Crisis Pregnancy Center. Sheryl LOVED to sing and sang in many choirs including many years at First Presbyterian Church in River Forest, IL and the past decade in the Gainesville Concert Chorus. Sheryl never met a stranger and loved people incredibly well everywhere she went. Hundreds, if not thousands, of people call Sheryl "friend" as can be seen on her Facebook page, which kept her in touch with everyone she knew, even better than her annual Christmas card and letter. She enjoyed making Swedish Christmas cookies, especially when her grandkids were old enough to help and learn. Like Ken, Sheryl was active in Faith Presbyterian Church, in the Empty Nesters group, church VBS, the Womens group, and Gainesvilles Precepts Bible Study. Ken and Sheryls lives were marked by their unwavering commitment to their Lord and Savior, to their family, their churches, and communities of 50 years in Oak Park, IL and 10 years in Gainesville, FL. They also had so much fun together and traveled often including trips to their familys homelands Sweden, Scotland, and Nova Scotia. They went on cruises, hosted friends and family for holidays, attended concerts, musical plays, sporting events, dressed in costumes for theme parties, and attended virtually every family wedding across the country. They loved their 2 kids, they loved their 7 grandkids, they loved each other, and they loved Jesus their Savior. A celebration of Ken and Sheryls lives will be held on Saturday, August 3, 2024, at 1pm for visitation and 2pm service at Faith Presbyterian Church in Gainesville, FL.
