Mr. Kirby "Shi" Smith, Jr. age 82 of Melrose passed away Sunday, March 3, 2024, at Putnam Medical Center in Palatka. He was born March 24, 1941, in Hawthorne to Kirby Shi and Eula Mae (Dyal) Smith, Sr. Mr. Smith had owned and operated his own electrical company prior to becoming employed with Georgia Pacific and then retiring from All Florida Electric. Mr. Smith enjoyed being outdoors hunting, fishing, gardening, and hosting yearly crawfish boils, but mostly he cherished the time he spent with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by siblings Robert Holden Smith and Barbara Faye Blackshear. Left behind to cherish his memory is his wife Katherine "Kitty" Janice Smith; children Michelle Smith and Kirby Smith (Susie), Debbie Burnard (Bill), Jimmy Cole, and Cindy Sibley (Sam). Also left behind is his sister Linda Smith Hildebran and sister-in-law Becki Smith. He was lovingly called "Papa Shi" by April N Braxton (Johnie), Ashley M Parker Stone (Gary), Denise J Brin (Rodney), Michael J Byrne Jr. (Lacey), Lacey G Adkins (Jonathan), Matthew Pauley (Jennifer), Tiffany Einarsson (Runar), Tabitha Burnard-Travis (Tiffany), Chandler Burnard, Jessica Hunter (Robbie), Jimmy Cole III, Samantha Sibley, and Laney Sibley, along with 21 great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 30, 2024, at Sampson City Church of God. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Mr. Johnny Frampton officiating.
