L. Georg
Vollweiler
Jun 15, 1945 — Jun 22, 2025
L. Georg Vollweiler, Ph.D, passed away at his home on June 22, 2025, after a long illness, with his husband Ronnie Lester by his side. He was born June 15, 1945, in Langen, Germany. Georg was educated both in Germany and Florida. He traveled extensively throughout his lifetime, and travel was one his passions. By the end of his life he had visited Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, England, the Netherlands, Luxemburg, Australia, Italy, Spain, Canada, Brazil, Paraguay, Tunisia and Egypt. He also traveled widely throughout the United States, but he always returned to Florida, his "very own paradise on earth".
Georg earned his Ph.D. from the University of Florida and taught at various institutions, including UF, the University of Arkansas, Miami University, and Santa Fe College, where he helped build one of Florida's largest anthropology programs. Passionate about teaching and promoting a deeper understanding of human origins, he traveled extensively and engaged in genealogical research, discovering deep American roots.
Georg is preceded in death by his father Freidrich Vollweiler, his mother Emmi Vollweiler, and his brother Heinzi Meyburg. He is survived by his beloved spouse Ronnie Lester, with whom he shared a happy life for the past 44 years. He is also survived by two sisters Uschi (Heiner) and Hilde (Rolf), as well as a multitude of cousins, nieces, nephews and many grand nieces and nephews both in the United States and Europe. Georg enjoyed a full life and will be missed by his many friends and family.
