Mr. Larry Leroy May age 86 of Keystone Heights passed away Tuesday,November 7, 2023, at Haven Hospice in Gainesville. He was born February 9,1937, in Walkerton, Indiana to Herbert and Cora (Brown) May.Mr. May served in the Army National Guard and attended PurdueUniversitys School of Engineering.He graduated from Parks College of St Louis University. Mr. May was anFAA Designated Examiner for over 40 years and airline check pilot. He wasChief Pilot and Director of Maintenance for prestigious Aviation Training, thelargest instrument training facility east of the Mississippi. Mr. May was alsoIA and A&P certified. He acquired approval for then built and operated hisown airport for 10 years. Mr. May was head of Shipping and Receiving atthe Energy Controls Division of Allied Signal/Bendix. He gave 2400 flighttests and flew 90 different kinds of aircraft, including seaplanes, helicopters,and gliders.A member of Freedom Baptist Church, he loved flying and traveling with hisfamily over the United States and Canada. He was a talented juggler,winning talent shows and performing on TV.In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by two sisters. Hissurvivors are his wife of 62 years Janice (Landrum) May and their son LyndalMay of Keystone Heights along with many cousins.The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 a.m., Friday, November 10,2023, in the Jones-Gallagher Funeral Home Chapel.
