Lawrence "Larry" W. Batten

Mr. Larry W. Batten, Jr., age 66, of Starke passed away Friday, January 31, 2020, at Haven Hospice in Orange Park following an extended illness. He was born October 1, 1953, in Gainesville to the late Lawrence W. and Clara (Johnson) Batten, Sr. Larry was raised in Starke and graduated in the class of 1972 from Bradford County High School; he had also served 8 years in the National Guard. Prior to retiring Larry owned Larry Battens Construction in Starke for many years. He was known for being a hardworking, caring, loving and strong man. Larry was also known for being a Godly man, he loved sharing his testimony and ministering to others. He enjoyed being outdoors, working in his business, building things and working in his yard, but mostly he loved spending time with his family. Larry leaves behind his loving and devoted wife of 47 years Susan (Sheppard) Batten of Starke and their three children Clara Lea Hicks (John) of Chiefland, Jeremy William Batten (Lisa) of Middleburg and Tina Marie Batten of Gainesville. Also left behind are his sister Louise Douglas of Flagler Beach and his mother in-law Carmen Quigley (David) of Chiefland. He was also lovingly called "Papa" by eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Larry requested no funeral services to be held.
