Leona F. Thompson

Mrs. Leona F. Thompson age 87, of Keystone Heights passed away on Monday, April 3, 2017 at Select Specialty Hospital in Gainesville following a long illness. She was born in Kenova, West Virginia on June 23, 1929 to the late Eugene and Alberta (Riggs) Hood. Mrs. Thompson has been a long time resident of Keystone Heights and was a homemaker; she was of the Baptist faith. She was also a very talented artist who loved to paint, do ceramics, and other arts and crafts. She enjoyed spending time with her family, spoiling her two grandsons, and was the reigning Candy Land Player Champion. Mrs. Thompson was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 61 years, William E. Thompson. She is survived by her sons, Richard "Michael" Thompson (Sharon) of Keystone Heights and Timothy B. Thompson (Kim) of Melrose; sisters, Jean Connell and June Rakes, both of Fairborn, Ohio; grandsons, Sean Thompson (Meredith) and Adam Thompson; and great grandchildren, Hadley and Aiden Thompson. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at Jones-Gallagher Funeral Home Chapel with a Celebration of Life following at 11:30 a.m. Pastor Paul Coleman will be officiating and the interment will follow at Keystone Heights Cemetery.
