Obituary

Lewis William Bohannon, 80, of Gainesville, passed away on Friday, May 31, 2024, surrounded by his family.Born on June 13, 1943, in OBrien to the late Cecil William Bohannon and Lillie Mae Bohannon. Lewis enlisted in the Navy in 1961 through August 7th, 1964, after four years of active duty he was discharged with honorable discharge. Lewis got married to the love of his life on January 19th, 1963. When Lewis came home from the Navy, he went back to his dads farm in OBrien, FL, and grew tobacco, peas, corn, and watermelon. Then later he moved back to Gainesville, where he was self-employed and leased several gas service stations in Micanopy Florida, I75, Exxon, Amoco in Gainesville. In April 1979 they moved to 2215 N Main St., known As Bohannons 1 Stop and has been at this location for 45 years. In 1977 he bought a small camper, and his family went on a trip to, Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, Boot Hill in Tombstone, then through New Mexico, Chedder Lake, Oregon, Old Faithful in Yellowstone National Park. Lewis enjoyed his family, his bond with his family will be missed.Lewis is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Mary Jane Bohannon, of Gainesville, two sons; Billy Ray (Balenda) and Michael Lewis Bohannon both of Gainesville, two sisters; Eloise Smith of Gainesville, Glenda Stalnaker of Melrose, one brother; Johnny Bohannon of Gainesville, three grandchildren; Brandon, Bradley, and Brian Bohannon all of Gainesville, and numerous nieces and nephews.The viewing will be held on Thursday, June 6, 2024 at Forest Meadows from 5:00-7:00 pm. The graveside service will be held on Friday, June 7, 2024 at 1:00 pm at the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church at 19233 77th Road, McAlpin, FL 32062.
