Mrs. Lillian Thorne Mitchell, 83, passed away on Sunday August 10, 2014 in Jacksonville.The family will receive friends for visitation from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Thursday August 14, 2014 at George H. Hewell and Son Funeral Home, 4140 University Boulevard, South. Graveside services for will be held at 11:00A.M. on Friday, August 15, 2014 in Greenlawn Cemetery, 4300 Beach Blvd.A Jacksonville native, Mrs. Mitchell was born here on September 28, 1930 to Judson Ashley Thorne, Sr. & Mae Johnston Thorne. She was a graduate of Landon High School, class of 1948 and a longtime member of Kernan Blvd. Baptist Church and formerly Southside Estates Baptist Church. Mrs. Mitchell and her family lived for 10 years in Ward, Alabama where she was a member of the Rescue Squad. Mrs. Mitchell was well known for her great cooking and piano playing and she also enjoyed tending to her flowers and her dogs. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Vester J. Mitchell, Jr. and a sister, Betty Ann Joyner. Mrs. Mitchell is survived by her children Martha Rosado, Laura Mitchell, Vester J. Mitchell, III, Derek Mitchell (Jamie) & Linda Mitchell; grandchildren, Richard Kogut Jr., Rebecca Kogut, Angela Burch, Melissa Burch, Mark Mitchell, Laura-Marie Mitchell, Odessa Mitchell, Trenton "Little Jones" Mitchell & Preston Mitchell; great-grandchildren Dylan James, Brittney Kogut, T.J.
