Linda Huggins McRae, of Starke Florida, passed away Monday, May 23, 2011 at her home after a three-year courageous fight against breast cancer. Born in Jacksonville, Florida, October 16, 1946, to George and Bernice Huggins, Linda grew up in Starke, Florida where she graduated from Bradford County High School in 1964. She was crowned the first Strawberry Queen in 1963 at the Strawberry Festival in Palatka, Florida. After graduation Linda attended Dales Technical College in Asheville, NC where she earned her Medical Technician License in 1965. Several years later she earned her Nursing degree from Santa Fe Community College, graduating in 1984 and served her community as an RN for years.She was a beloved wife of 44 years to Dewayne Lee McRae, a devoted mother of two children Dodie McRae Sapp of Starke FL, and Robert T. McRae of Burns, TN and a loving grandmother of five grandchildren, Taylor Chastain of Brooker, FL, Cole McRae of Burns, TN., Brycen P. Sapp of Starke, FL, Savannah Chastain of Starke, FL., and Molly McRae of Burns, TN. Linda will forever be remembered by her loving sister Sandra K. Crosby of Alachua, FL. and brothers Thomas Huggins of Starke, FL, and Billy Huggins of Orange Park, FL.One of Lindas favorite hobbies was painting. She discovered her love and talent for Folk Art painting and completed her Folk Art One Stroke teacher certification in 2002. She then went on to teach classes, empowering other ladies to have fun through painting at Madison Street Baptist Church where she and her family are active members. Linda served her church with her talent by painting props for vacation bible school amongst other events. She will be truly missed by her church family. A celebration memorial service will be held at 6:00 PM on Thursday, May 26, 2011 at Madison Street Baptist Church of Starke, FL.
