Linda Wharton

Linda Walker Wharton, age 81, passed away Saturday, October 28, 2017 at her home with her daughters at her side. She was born May 27, 1936 to Robert Lindsay Walker and Lois Strickland Walker in Jacksonville, Florida. Linda was the first Editor of The Lake Region Monitor and for many years she and her husband owned and operated the food mart at the corner of SR 100 and SR 21. This family owned business was formerly known as Walkers Service Station. Linda was very active in her community and had a passion for the history of Keystone Heights. One year she was chosen as Grand Marshall of the 4th of July parade. She had a beautiful voice and was an active choir member of the Keystone United Methodist Church. Through her love of photography, she created many photographs and cards for her family and friends. Linda is preceded in death by her husband, James F. Wharton, her brother, Robert Veazy Walker, and her sister, Julia Walker George. She is survived by her daughters, Kathy W. Davis and Laura Richardson Hazen, 3 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Her infectious smile and love of life will be missed by many. The family will receive visitors at Jones-Gallagher Funeral Home Wednesday, November 1, 2017 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, November 2, 2017 at the Keystone United Methodist Church at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Jeff Tate officiating. A reception will follow in the fellowship hall. A private interment will take place at a later date.
