Mrs. Lola Champion Nelson age 87of Alachua passed away Monday, May 6, 2013 at the Haven Hospice E.T. York Care Center. Mrs. Nelson was born on August 3, 1925 in Pittsburg, Kansas to the late Leo and Bertha (Ressler) Champion. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Starke and she loved Cardinals. In 2005, Mrs. Nelson moved to Alachua from Keystone Heights where she had been a longtime resident, and retired from the DuPont Corporation as a Clerical Clerk after 31 years of dedicated service. Mrs. Nelson is survived by; one daughter, Kay Purvis of Alachua, one son, Buddy Garbett of Statesboro, GA, one sister, Norma Thompson of Starke, one brother, Donald Thompson of Keystone Heights, 2 grandsons, 3 great great grandsons, 2 great great granddaughter, and many nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 9, 2013 at the Keystone Heights Cemetery. Reverend Don Thompson will be officiating.
