Lucille Nutgrass Hays passed away on February 4, 2023, in Atlanta, Georgia where she had moved in 2016 to be near her son Steven W. Hays (Marge). Lucille was born on December 16, 1924, in the Little South community of Kentucky. After graduating from high school, she worked sewing soldiers uniforms for the war effort before moving to Bloomington, IL to help care for her older sister Altas son Don and to work in a hospital maintaining the operating rooms. A friend introduced her to her future husband, Walter J.G. Hays, Jr. (1921-2016), who was there for an Army training program. They married when he returned from WWII and lived in Sewickly, PA, where Walt worked at his fathers ice plant. After a few years they moved to Normal, IL, where Walt worked for State Farm Insurance Co. Their son Steven was born in 1951. In 1954 they moved to Jacksonville, FL when Walt transferred to State Farms new regional office. Lucille was active with Glynlea United Methodist Church and was an avid bridge player.She is survived by nieces Glenda Crutcher, Marvenna Smith, Janet Nutgrass (Wayne), Ellen Hays Hall, nephew Tommy Smith (Carolyn) and many great and great, great nieces and nephews. She will join Walt in interment in the Jacksonville National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the charity of your choice. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2:3o PM from the graveside in Jacksonville National Cemetery. Arrangements under the direction of George H.
