It is great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Lynda Bailey Deas, on August 10, 2026.
Lynda passed away at her residence, with hospice and caring family members beside her.
Born to Frampton and Marie Bailey in Charleston, South Carolina, she migrated to Gainesville in July 1960 with her husband to raise their family.
Lynda's journey through life was marked by deep devotion to her family and friends, personal accomplishment, and a spirit that left a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing her.
From her earliest days, Lynda was an inspiration, teaching herself accounting and bookkeeping to join the workforce, at a time when most women around her were homemakers.
She was often a quiet presence but she was also spirited. She had a quick wit, and was intelligent and interesting.
Lynda began her career at Wilson's Department Store on Main Street. She also worked at the Tackle Box, which stood directly in the center of where Hawthorne Road and University Avenue converge.
For a time, she waited tables and kept books for Mr. Dee's (an upscale Italian restaurant) in the Gainesville Mall. She eventually found herself at Central Motor Supply, and finally at General Electric in Alachua. She enjoyed working and exhibited a strong work ethic.
Outside her work, Lynda found immense joy in the warmth of family. She especially loved preparing for the Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday season. She delighted in decorating and watching her little ones' eyes light up as bright as any tree light or candle! She especially loved this season because it brought family gatherings, which included her six sisters. Yes, she belonged to the Seven Sisters Club.
She was preceded in death by one granddaughter; both her parents; her son, Billy (who preferred to be called Jim after his Dad); and three of her beloved sisters; the love of her life since they met in grade school, Jimmy Deas, the man she spent 49 years of married life, creating the best chapters of her story.
She leaves 2 of her 3 children, 7 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and very recently born, 2 great-great-granddaughters.
She also leaves a plethora of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends who cherish fond memories of their favorite Aunt/cousin/friend, Lynda.
She is missed by all who knew and loved her. As one niece said, "I can't believe I will never see her beautiful blue eyes again!"
The family is working on a virtual celebration of life to accommodate the many out-of-towners, and folks with disabilities, who also wish to participate.
Please be patient. New technology and old (er) people sometimes take time to mix.
Privately, the link will be provided to family and friends when ready.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Evans Carter Funeral Home 18724 High Springs Main St. High Springs FL 32643
