Marcia Hankoff Philips, passed away peacefully at home on September 10. Born in Pittsburg, PA on May 4, 1933, Marcia grew up in Miami Beach and graduated from Miami Beach High in 1951. She attended Syracuse University where she met her lifelong love, Stanley Philips. Upon her graduation in 1955, she and Stanley married, and they moved to Germany where he was stationed while serving in the U.S. Army. They returned to Miami and raised three children. Marcia worked for many years at the Miami-Dade Community College South Campus bookstore. When she and Stan retired, they moved to Gainesville. They were married for 54 years. Marcia kept busy during retirement by volunteering at the Butterfly Rainforest at the Florida Museum of Natural History, kayaking, birdwatching, and playing mahjong. Marcia is survived by her son Michael Philips, his wife Loreta and their son Ryan, daughter Nanci Schwartz, son-in-law Marc and granddaughter Acadia, as well as many loving friends and family. She was predeceased by her husband Stanley and son, Bruce Philips. The family is indebted to the compassionate staff at The Village at Gainesville and Haven Hospice for their loving care of Marcia. The family will hold a private memorial service to celebrate her life. They ask that donations be made in her memory to the CBS Butterfly Endowment F023729 at the Florida Museum of Natural History or The Village Foundation Associate Scholarship Fund.
