Hendersonville-Margaret Doris Gunter Franklin, 89, transitioned home on Saturday, March 31, 2012. She was born in Sanford, NC to the late Roy and Leta Gunter. Proud of her Cherokee lineage and North Carolina roots, she graduated from Lumberton High School in Lumberton, NC. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil M. Franklin and her brother Roy Scott Gunter.Doris met and married Cecil Franklin while working at the Lumberton Police Department. Cecil was a Special Agent for the FBI on temporary assignment in Lumberton. They married on April 22, 1947 and began building a life together which included work, play and travel.Doris was a true Southern Lady, whose life centered around family, friends, and finding a bargain. She was a master seamstress who was able to stitch together a legacy of love, laughter and spirit for her family.She is survived by her daughters and son-in-law; Peggy Hilton, Naples, FL and Sally and Art Buchanan, Hendersonville, NC, sister and brother-in-law; Emily-Ann and Joe Kelly, and sister-in-law; Peggy Gunter. She was the proud grandmother of Shannon and Shawnie Cox, Andrew Buchanan, Matthew and Scott Hilton, with whom she shared many secrets and memories. She also was a great grandmother of six.Graveside funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 4th, 2012 at 2:30 PM in Keystone Heights Cemetery, Keystone Heights, FL.
