Mrs. Margaret Futch Pauley age 99 of Lawtey, passed away peacefully in the presence of her beloved family on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, after a brief illness. At a very early age, Margaret met the person that she would love and cherish for the rest of her life, Obed Macel Pauley, while he was stationed at Camp Blanding during WWII. They were married on March 28, 1942, in Starke, FL. And had a wonderful life together for 66 years until his death in 2008. Margaret was born April 2, 1927, in Lawtey, the daughter of Robert Henry Futch and Minnie Griffis, who were part of the earliest pioneer families in the Lawtey area. She was the youngest of twelve children, all of whom preceded her in death. She was dearly loved by all who knew her. She became a mother for the first time at the age of 16 and from there grew into the greatest Mother that anyone could ever hope or ask for. There was never any doubt that she loved her family more than life itself and that she always put them first before any of her own needs, she is survived by her children, Grady Macel (Gabriella “Gabby”) Pauley and Donna (Richard) Solze; her grandson, Stuart (Janice) Pauley, granddaughter, Jillian Pauley; great grandson, Matthew (Jennifer) Pauley and great-great grandchildren, Kyleigh and Landon Pauley. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She was a lifelong member of Evergreen Baptist Church in Lawtey. Throughout her life her faith in Jesus Christ as her protector and personal savior brought her through many hard times, where others may have faltered, she always held steadfast to her faith that everything was in her Savior’s loving hands. Margaret loved children and supported St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital; therefore, anyone wishing to may send a contribution to St. Jude’s, Memorials Processing, 501 St. Jude PL, Memphis, TN 38105-9959 in her memory in lieu of flowers.
The family will receive friends at the DeWitt C. Jones Chapel of Jones-Gallagher Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at 10:30 am. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 am with Reverend Ron Kimbrell officiating. Interment will follow in Dyal Cemetery.
