Mrs. Margaret Holland PeekMrs. Margaret Holland Peek, 97 of Starke, died June 12, 2017 following a brief illness. Born in Dublin, Georgia, May 9, 1920, to William Henry Holland and Irene Taylor Holland, Margaret was a long-time elementary school teacher and librarian at Starke Elementary School until her retirement. Margaret received her Bachelors degree at Georgia State College for Women at Milledgeville and her Masters degree at Mercer University at Macon, Georgia.Margaret married Jimmie Peek, Jr. July 30, 1955 who was longtime President of the Florida Bank at Starke. They were married 53 years prior to his death in 2008. They enjoyed international travels to Europe over 30 times as well as all 50 states of America. Margaret was a devoted wife spending everyday with her husband in his decline in health as a patient at the former Bradford Terrace (now Riverwood) Nursing Home in Starke until his death.Margaret was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Starke. She taught childrens Sunday school for 50 years and wrote hand-written letters to each child who did not attend on a given Sunday.A special thanks goes to Kimberly Jones Currie, caregiver for her special care of Margaret along with the staff at Parkside ALF of Starke.Survivors are her 4 children: sons, Terry (Janet, former spouse) Walters, Rev. Lynwood (Brenda) Walters all of Gainesville, daughters, Dee (David) Canova of Kingsley Lake, Katharine (Richard) Peek Long of Tallahassee, 6 grandchildren: Christy (Taylor) Launt, Jeff Walters, Mandy Walters, Sgt. Robert (Cori) Walters, Dr. Brian (Dr. Erica) Canova, Jason (Paige) Canova, 6 great-grandchildren: Emily Canova, Jaelyn Canova, Zuan Canova, Tyler Canova, Braden Canova, and Jackson Walters. Funeral services will be held at the First Baptist Church, 163 W. Jefferson St., Starke, FL 32091 on Friday, June 16th at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Ben Bryant, Rev. Lynwood Walters and Minister Terry Walters officiating. Visitation will begin at 10:00 A.M., one hour prior to the funeral service. A private family interment will be held at Crosby Lake Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to First Baptist Church Childrens Ministry, 163 W. Jefferson St., Starke, 32091 or Hospice of the Nature Coast, P.O. Box 641270, Beverly Hills, FL 34464.
