Maria T. Stephenson, age 88 of Starke, passed away on April 19, 2015. Maria was born on May 26, 1926 in Puerto Rico. She was married to her husband, Joseph Stephenson, for 63 years traveling all over the United States during his Navy career. She enjoyed all their travels and seeing America the beautiful. Maria had a strong passion for helping others. She was a volunteer for Shands Starke Hospital Auxiliary, the local food pantry, and the animal shelter. She was a big fund raiser for the local Relay for Life, and received volunteer of the year from the North Florida Regional Chamber of Commerce in 2004. Maria worked at Winn Dixie for over 20 years and always had a joke for you. Survivors include her husband Joseph Stephenson; and many friends. Services will be held at a later date at the Jacksonville National Cemetery. There will be a tribute for Maria at her tent during the Relay for Life event this Friday, April 24, 2015 at 7:00 PM at the Bradford High School track.
