Maria Maron Wallace age 95, of Starke passed away at the E. T. York Center for Caring in Gainesville on Wednesday, March 1, 2017. She was born on April 15, 1921 in Havana, Cuba to the late Jose and Maria Lopez del Castillo De Maron.Maria attended the University of Havana where she studied Home Economics, Agriculture, and eventually received a PhD in English Education. She also attended Vanderbilt University where she studied to become a registered Dietitian. She worked in Central and South America as a humanitarian worker for the Pan American Health organization. Afterwards, she moved to Starke, Florida and became head Dietitian for the Florida State prison and retired in 1986. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Starke and she enjoyed traveling and reading. In her later life, she started quilting and won many awards, including blue and rosette ribbons at the county fair. Maria is survived by her daughter, Ana W. Browder (Henry "Buddy") of Starke; son, Santiago Wallace of Utah; sisters, Noemi Baldwin of Falls Church, Virginia and Ana Traveria of Crouse, North Carolina; grandchildren, Shana Albert (Brian), Amanda Browder (Bill Gordon), Brittany Wallace, Sara Wallace, Zachery Wallace, Isla Wallace, and Avery Wallace; and great grandchildren, Wyatt Albert, Grant Albert, Aspen Harris, Ahtym Harris, and Adalynn LaPlante. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends.A Celebration of Marias Life will be held 11:00 am on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at the First Presbyterian Church of Starke, 921 Call Street, Starke, FL 32091 with The Rev.
