Mariny F. Coleman was born July 3, 1962 in Jackson, MS. She was the first born child
of Esther R. Curtis. As a youth, Mariny lived with her family in Jackson Mississippi
where she gave her life to Christ and joined Hyde Park Missionary Baptist Church, and
continued to serve the Lord at New Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church.
Mariny was educated in Jackson Public Schools, after which she received her
Bachelors Degree from Mississippi College in Clinton, MS. When Mariny relocated to
Tallahassee, FL, she pursued and achieved multiple certifications and degrees. Her
personal dedication extended far beyond her family. For the last thirty years, Mariny
devoted herself to her community by serving in various capacities which all included the
goal of bettering the lives of children. Mariny was an educator and state advocate for
children and those found to be most vulnerable.
On July 14, Mariny quietly passed away with family and friends by her side. She fought
a good fight for both God and her family; never forsaking her faith. Mariny was a loving
mother, sister, aunt, and friend who will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Mariny was preceded in death by her mother, Esther R. Curtis, her grandmother, Addie
Nunnery Curtis, two aunts, Josephine Curtis and Mary Ann Curtis and an uncle, Rayford
Curtis.
Those left to cherish her precious memories include her daughters: Valatashia Ferrell of
Fredericksburg, VA and Valexandria Hunt (Roosevelt) of Ocala, FL, son Rashad
Coleman of Gainesville, FL, her beloved pet Bo. Her sister Marjorie Bracey of Jackson,
MS; brothers Malcolm Dunlap (Gretchen ) of Jackson, MS and Marcus Curtis (Sherri )of
Tallahassee, FL; her aunt Margureet Norman (Robert) of Manhattan,NY, her uncle
Harold Curtis of Jackson, MS, and host of wonderful nieces, nephews cousins, and
friends.
