Marjorie Shelley, 92, passed away on November 24, 2025 in Gainesville, Florida.
Marjorie Shelley was born on March 2, 1933 in Manchester, England to Bertram and Alice (Grimes) Fish.
Marjorie worked at the Blackpool Tower Company as a personal assistant to the catering manager. While employed there, she met her future husband John Shelley. They loved to go ballroom dancing, hiking on the moors, and walking along the boardwalk. Marjorie and John had their first child two years later, Susan Mary. Susan was born prematurely and died at 18 months. Shortly after Susan's passing,Marjorie and John moved to Connecticut to begin a new life near Marjorie's sister Joan and Joan's husband, George. Marjorie and John had a second daughter, Carol 2 years after moving to the United States. In 1970 Jean Sampson moved in with John, Marjorie, and Carol, and became another sister to Marjorie when Marjorie's father married Jean's mother. That marriage didn't last but the friendship/sisterhood relationship lasted for 55 years. After the passing of her husband John, Marjorie married Charlie Vanover, who passed after 8 fun-filled years.
Marjorie loved her family and was especially close to Joan's and George's children, Nick, David, and Mark. She loved her great nephew and great nieces, Nick's and Linda's children: Matthew (Lauren) and Lauren (Blake) and Alannah (daughter of nephew David and his wife Ayesha). She loved her great-great nephews, Jack and Nicky (sons of Matthew and Lauren) and Lucas (son of Lauren and Blake). The majority of her family lives in England.
Marjorie is survived by her daughter Carol Shelley, her stepsister Jean, her nieces Linda and Ayesha, nephew David, nephew Tony (Anne), her great nieces and nephew, and great-great nephews.
Marjorie is preceded in death by her husband John, husband Charlie, her sister Joan, and her beloved nephews Nick and Mark.
A Memorial Service and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
Marjorie loved animals so donations to Carson Springs Wildlife Conservation Foundation (www.carsonspringswildlife.org) would be appreciated. Additionally donations to support the work of ET York Hospice Care Center (beyourhaven.org) would be welcomed.
