Rev. Marvin J. Eiland passed away July 27, 2017 in Starke, Florida. He was born in Odessa, Florida in Pasco County in 1924, where he spent his childhood years.In 1999, the Eiland family was honored in Dade City as one of the founding families of Pasco County and was represented by memorials on the courthouse square.Marvin Eiland entered the U.S. Army in 1942 and served in the Far East and the European areas of conflict in an armored cavalry recon unit. He was personally involved in the liberation of several of the Nazi death camps.After the war he married Lillie Mae Triest of Starke, FL. Mr. Eiland was ordained into the gospel ministry in 1954 and together with Lillie served several churches in Florida. They were active in beginning new missionsone being the First Baptist Church of Inglis where he was the founding pastor.Rev. Eiland also served churches in South Carolina and Mississippi. He was active in Southern Baptist missions programs and served as chairman of the Tallahatchee County, Miss. Baptist Missions Committee.After serving as pastor the First Baptist Church of Inglis for the second time, Rev. Eiland retired from active ministry in 1989.Mr. Eiland was preceded in death by his son Terry and wife Lillie. In place of flowers the family request donations be made through the Baptist Church designated for the Southern Baptist Mission Dignity Fund for low income retired ministers.
