Mary Alice Grimes DeWitt. It is with great sadness that the DeWitt family announce the passing of their beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend Mary Alice Dewitt. She died unexpectedly at home early morning, Friday, September 16, 2022, at the age of 88. Mary Alice was born December 5, 1933, in New Smyrna Beach to Beaugard "Buford" and Dorothy (Dresser) Grimes. She moved to Keystone Heights with her husband and two children in 1961 with their third child being born in February 1962. Mrs. DeWitt became a Licensed Practical Nurse at the age of 50 and nursing homes were her calling. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband Willie Dennis DeWitt in 2004 and their son Terry Dennis DeWitt in 2001, two sisters, and one brother. She is survived by her daughter and son in-law Denise and Billy Bell of Gainesville, her son Willie Brett DeWitt of Keystone Heights along with two brothers William Grimes of Brunswick, Georgia, and Gary Grimes of New Smyrna Beach. Also left behind are seven grandchildren and four great-grand sons. This time of deep loss reminds us to treasure the moments we have today. A graveside service will be held on Friday, September 23, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at the Keystone Heights Cemetery. Arrangements are by JONES-GALLAGHER FUNERAL HOME, 340 E.
