Obituary

Mary Eloise Slade of Gainesville peacfully went to be with our Lord and Savior JesusChrist,Thursday morning November 30th at the age of 90, following a short illness, wth herfamily by her side. She was a wonderful mother who was always there when we needed her.She also had many friends and was a well-loved member of the community.She was predeceased in death by her parents, her husband Avory (married 53 years) sonMichael and daughter Mary C. Slade, and sister Lavern (Green) Lucas.Mary was born in Starke to Claude and Edna (Mosley) Green, the youngest of two daughters.Her family later moved to Maxville Florida when she was a young child and she grew up thereand attended Baldwin High School where she was a cheerleader.She loved bluegrass music going to bluegrass festivals for many years and a few bluegrasscruises to the Bahamas.Later in life she joined a country line dancing group of Seniors in theHampton area.Mary married the love of her life in June 1951 and together they raised four children.She was afull time homemaker when her children were young, supplementing the famliy income by raisingcalves from local dairies,raising chickens and selling eggs. She sold her homemade needworkand took in laundry, she wrote a weekly column in the Bradford County Telegraph and the BakerCounty Press about local community activites.She also won a contest that a local Jacksonville county music radio station (WQIK) was havingby composing a jingle for Carnation Milk.Later the family moved to Gainesville and she then began her career of working outside thehome working at Alachua General Hospital from 1971-1974 , then North Florida RegionalHospital from 1974-1993.She was a former member of the University City Lions Club in Gainesville.She was a member of The Church of Hampton.Mary is survived by her son Cliff Slade(Denice),daughter Nancy Barrington(Rudy).Grandchildren Skyler Slade(Jen), Sara Slade (Ryan Rosenberg) Cody Slade, GabbyCromwell(Colton),Amy Bryant(Brent), Bo Barrington (Angie)Greatgrandchildren Melina Slade, Malaya Slade,Catherine and Elizabeth Bryant, OliviaBarrington, Noah Barrington and Luke BarringtonMany nieces and nephews and great-nieces and-nephews.Graveside Services will be held Wednesday December 6th at Santa Fe Cementay in HamptonFlorida at 11:00.
