Mary Alice Gibson, 89, of Starke, Florida, passed away on May 25, 2024, after an extended illness.Mary Alice, lovingly known as Mouse, was born on July 24, 1934, in Knott County, Kentucky. After Mary Alice graduated from Hindman High School in 1953, she went on to study Nursing at the Appalachian School of Practical Nursing in Lexington, Kentucky. After graduating as a licensed practical nurse, she began her nursing career in Michigan and later ended her 40-year career at Riverside Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida.While dressing a mannequin in a department store window, Mary Alice was spotted by her future husband Curtis Gibson. They were married on September 17, 1955, and had four children, Kathy, Richard, Carolyn, and Gary.In 1996, Mary Alice retired and spent her time flower gardening, fishing, bowling, going to the beach, traveling, and spending time with family. She also loved watching Kentucky Wildcat basketball and the Jacksonville Jaguars.Mary Alice was preceded in death by her parents Charlie Combs and Otis Mae Clemons, daughter, Kathy Gibson, son Richard Gibson, sister Evelee Everage, and brother Charles "Sonny" Combs.She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Curtis Gibson, daughter Carolyn Cragg, son-in-law Rick Cragg, and son Gary Gibson. She was Nana to four grandchildren, Candace (Michael) Osteen, Jenna (Robert) Hewett, Courtney (Brad) Witt, and Kayleb, and 8 great-grandchildren, Michael, Madelynn, Ella, Aubrey, Knox, Oaklee, Brady, and Riley.Services will be held at Dewitt C Jones Chapel, Starke on May 28th, 2024. The family will receive friends at 3:00 pm, funeral service at 4:00 pm, followed by Interment at Crosby Lake Cemetery.
