Mary Ellen McDaniel PetersonMrs. Mary Ellen McDaniel Peterson age 94, of Starke, passed away Saturday, July 3, 2021 at her residence. Mrs. Peterson was born on October 18, 1926 in Caryville, Washington County to the late Jim and Blanche (Miller) McDaniel and moved to Starke in 1937. Prior to retirement she worked as a Psychiatric Nurse for the Northeast Florida Hospital in MacClenny and Tacachale in Gainesville. Her life revolved around helping others, she took many family members and non-family into her home, she babysat and assisted in caring for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mary was a member of the Starke Zoning Board, the Bradford County Honorable Executive Democratic Committee, and fought for womens rights, including marching in Tallahassee. She was also a member of the Starke Womens Club, the Bradford County Historical Society, helped establish the local Lions Club, assisted with establishing Alcoholics Anonymous and worked to help raise funds for the Bradford High School Band. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, James A. Peterson, daughter, Pauline Randolph, granddaughter, Angie Randolph, and great granddaughter, Kayla Chastain. Survivors are, daughters, Claudette Frees (Donald) of Melrose, Blanche Henley (Everett) of Starke, grandchildren, Melissa Wiley (Jr.), Marc Rose (Kim) all of Starke, Jennifer Frees of Melrose, great grandchildren, Ashley Underwood, and Austin Underwood both of Melrose, and Joseph Griffis of Starke. The family will receive friends at the DeWitt C. Jones Chapel on Tuesday, July, 6, 2021 from 11:00 am to 12:00 noon with funeral services beginning at 12:00 PM with Mr. Rod Carter officiating.
