Mary Ann Soud

Mary Ann Hitzing Soud age 87, of Keystone Heights died peacefully in her home on May 4, 2019, surrounded by her loving family. The daughter of Myrtle Minnie (Fish) and Charles Frederick Hitzing, Mary Ann was born on June 9, 1931, in Jacksonville. She was the youngest of twelve; all others preceded her in death. Mary Ann was a long time resident of Jacksonville, moving to Sampson Lake in 1981 and then to Keystone Heights, in 2003. Mary Ann was an award-winning realtor, serving as Associate Chairman of the Jacksonville Board of Realtors. She specialized in commercial property and later developed Deer Foot Trail on Lake Sampson. Mary Ann loved music, teaching herself to play the piano as a child from an encyclopedia. She also loved to fish in both freshwater and saltwater. As a young adult, she volunteered at Walter Reed General Hospital visiting war veterans. In her later years, she volunteered as the "Story Lady" for the Veterans Domiciliary Home in Lake City, and served as a chaplain for the American Legion Post 202 in Keystone Heights. Mary Ann was an active member of Keystone United Methodist Church where she sang in the adult choir, played handbells, and was on the board of the United Methodist Women. Mary Ann is survived by her daughter, Esther Soud Parker (Tim) of Raleigh, North Carolina, son John Caliste of Washington D.C., granddaughter Laura Parker Barnes (David) of Apex, NC, and grandson John Edward Parker of Dover, New Hampshire. A memorial service for Mary Ann will be held at 11:00 a.m. in the Keystone United Methodist Church with Dr. Tom Farmer officiating and Wade Hitzing will serve as honorary pallbearer.
