Mary Geneva Whitehead

Mrs. Mary Geneva Whitehead, age 96, of Lake Butler, passed away Thursday,January 18, 2018, at Windsor Health and Rehabilitation Center following anextended illness with Alzheimers Disease.Geneva was born in Raiford on August 15, 1921, to the late Jim and FrancesGriffis. She was a homemaker, always calling herself the "lady of the houseand farm". Geneva devoted her life to caring for her family, was a fabulouscook, and spent a lot of time gardening on the farm. She was a member ofPine Level Baptist Church and as time allowed enjoyed reading and listeningto gospel and country music. Preceding her in death was her husband of 55years, James "J.B." Whitehead, four brothers, four sisters, and threegrandchildren.Survivors are her children, James Robert Whitehead (Brenda) of Lake Butler,Sandra W. Reddish (Jim) of Melrose, Linda W. Johns of Starke, Elaine W.Tyler (the late Gregory) of Lilburn, GA, Jerry L. Whitehead of Lake Butler,Joan E. Whitehead of Starke, and Barry L. Whitehead of Lake Butler;sisters: Dixie Lee Lyons (Bill) of MacClenny and Jeanette Greene ofJacksonville; and a brother, James "Bobby" Griffis (Shirley) of LakeButler. She also has eight surviving grandchildren and tengreat-grandchildren.The family will receive friends at the JONES-GALLAGHER FUNERAL HOME onSaturday, January 20, 2018 from 4:30 P.M. to 6:30 P.M. Funeral serviceswill be held on Sunday, January 21, 2018, at 2:00 P.M. in the DEWITT C.JONES CHAPEL of Jones-Gallagher Funeral Home with Pastor Randall Griffisand Pastor Mark Woods officiating.
