Mrs. Evelyn Wicker age 98 of Keystone Heights passed away in Gainesville Tuesday, April 18, 2023. She was born September 19, 1924 in Dothan, Alabama to James and Lillie (Kilgore) Griggs. Mrs. Wicker moved to Keystone Heights in 1986 from Palm Valley and was a homemaker. She was a very active member of the First Baptist Church teaching Sunday school and serving anywhere she was needed. She also a member of Ribault Masonic Lodge order of the Eastern Star where she served as Grand Matron and enjoyed being involved in Rainbow Girls as Mother Advisor for several years with her daughters. Mrs. Wicker enjoyed camping and was involved with Campers on Mission, Good Sams Club, and The Clown Ministry. Even though she loved volunteering her most precious time spent was with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband Charles Wicker and their daughter Llewellyn Nienkerk and two brothers Rev. William Griggs and Hugo Griggs. Mrs. Wicker does leave behind three daughters Sara (Sally) Deneen of Navarra, Lily Irwin of Melrose, and Charla Swale of Yorktown, Virginia along with two sisters Sara Elliott of Madrid, Alabama and Shirley Dismukes of Opelika, Alabama. She was lovingly called "Grandmother" by eight grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren. The family will receive Friday, May 5, 2023, 5-7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 6, 2023, in the First Baptist Church. Interment will follow at the Keystone Heights Cemetery.
