Mrs. Mattie R. Taber, 83, of Keystone Heights passed away on Wednesday, January 12, 2011 at the Lynchburg General Hospital in Lynchburg, VA. Mattie was born in Miami to the late James C. and Ruby (Gay) Rucks and was a retired Bookkeeper for the Biscayne Air Conditioning Co. which she and her husband had owned. Mrs. Taber had been a resident of Keystone Heights since 1981 moving here from Miami and was a member of the Freedom Baptist Church and D.A.R. She was preceded in death by her husband David Taber, Jr.; a brother Kenneth Rucks; a sister, Claire Hayes; and a brother, James Rucks. Her survivors are her two sons, David R. Taber, III and his wife Winnie of Lynchburg, VA; Donald James Taber and his wife Lou Anne of Wilson, NC; one daughter, Kathleen Suzanne Cowart and her husband Jack of Donaldsonville, GA; one brother, Wilson Rucks of Okeechobee, FL; six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Viewing for Mrs. Taber will be held on Friday, January 21, 2011 from 6-8 p.m. in the Freedom Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, January 22, 2011 in the Freedom Baptist Church with Pastor Ken Herring and Dr. Al Janney officiating. Burial will follow at the Keystone Heights Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Freedom Baptist Church or Meals on Wheels in any state.
