Mrs. Mavis Williamson Mitchem broke the bonds of Earth on April 2, 2015. She was born in Christiansburg, VA on February 20, 1925. The daughter of Roy and Marguerite Stiff Williamson, she graduated from Pembroke (VA) High School as salutatorian. She received a two-year Business Diploma from Radford University. At Radford, she was a member of Alpha Theta Chapter of Sigma Sigma Sigma National Sorority and continued membership in Alumnae Chapters. She is survived by daughters Lisa, her care giver for the past nine years (Jacksonville) and Margaret Boksa (Palm Harbor, FL), sons Paul T. (Richmond, VA) and Allen (Hendersonville, NC), granddaughters Joy M. (Jacksonville) and Karey Lofton (St. Petersburg, FL), grandson Matthew Boksa (Austin, TX), and two great-grandchildren. Proud to be a Virginian, her home state was very important to her. Travel, gourmet dining, and reading were among her pleasures. Funeral services will be held at 1:00PM Monday, in the chapel of George H. Hewell and Son Funeral Home, 4140 University Boulevard, S., with Rev. Tom Bary of Neptune Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 9:00AM on Sunday.
