Obituary

Mayme F. Wright, age 94, of Gainesville, Florida, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones on April 30, 2026, one day after her 94th birthday. Born on April 29, 1932, in Wallins Creek, Kentucky, Mayme was a beloved daughter, sister, aunt, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother. She dedicated her life to the service of others as a registered nurse, having retired from North Florida Regional Hospital after many years of compassionate care. Following retirement she served two years as a Christian missionary in Africa and Kazakhstan in a medical and feeding program. She was a devoted member of the Westside Baptist community and was involved in missions and enjoyed helping individuals practice speaking English in their international class. Mayme enjoyed a simple life and put God first in all things .When not at a church function she loved watching football especially college ball and the gators but she would watch any game that was on. Mayme got a bike many years ago and enjoyed riding and could be spotted riding her red tricycle to Publix or the Millhopper library. She was an avid reader who completed no fewer than 3 books a week and an expert jigsaw puzzle assembler who works through more puzzles that anyone reading this , when she wasn't training her brain she was pumping iron at the Gainesville Health and Fitness Women's Center with one of her daughters and one of her granddaughters up until a few weeks before she passed . She was a safe haven to countless people throughout her life and brought comfort to everyone she met through her peaceful spirit ,beautiful smile and her warm hugs.

Mayme is the mother of 4 loving children Rachael McCort, Bettye Wells, Doug Wright (deceased) and Rita Toro. She leaves behind a cherished legacy of grandchildren, including Barry Heckard (deceased) Frannie Harrison, Shawnna Camp, Jasen Wells, Paris Wells, Austin Wells, David Toro, and Lexi McDowell. She will be forever remembered and loved by her 10 great grandchildren and by her 1 great-great grandson.

Her family will hold a funeral service in her honor, where they will reflect on her remarkable life, her devoted service through Christ and the compassion she possessed for each individual around her through her endless acts of selflessness. Services will be held at Forest Meadows Funeral Home 725 NW 23rd Ave. Gainesville FL 32609 May 6th at 10 am.

Mayme touched the lives of many and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
