Melba Gwendolyn Justus, 87 of Middleburg, Florida, passed away surrounded by family at her home on Saturday, December 30, 2023. She was born to the late Wilbur and Eunice Mincey in Fort Lauderdale, FL. She was married to her husband, Joe on January 22, 1953. They moved to Middleburg in 1971 where they built their forever home for their family. Melba was a hard worker and held numerous jobs including making helicopter altimeters during the war, being an elevator operator, working as a coil winder for televisions, a CNA at Penney Farms Retirement Community, and served the Clay County School System where she ultimately retired as a bus monitor. Her favorite and most cherished job was that of Wife, Mother, and Grandmother "Granny". Melba was a small but mighty woman who kept busy tending to her yard, cooking and baking, attending outings with her Red Hat Society (when it wasnt too cold), and taking care of her family members. Melba was a dedicated Christian who worked diligently to be the hands and feet of Jesus. She was always willing to take care of others whether she moved in with them to serve as caretaker or welcomed them into her home in times of need.She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilbur and Eunice Mincey; husband, Joe Justus; two daughters, Barbara Jean and Diana Prater; two brothers, Wilbur and Fred Mincey; and two sisters, Barbara Williams and Kay Justus. She is survived by her loving son, Jason Justus (Susan); two sisters, Rosemary Colley and Vivian Parlin; two granddaughters, Tyra Lecompte (Michael) and Shelby Rountree (Tyler); two grandsons, Joe Tarver (Lindsay) and Josey Justus (Kendall); two great granddaughters, Bailee Coatney and Sophia Tarver; two great grandsons, Braden and Bennet Tarver; and two great great grandsons Colt and Wes Coatney. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. in the Helm-Gallagher Funeral Home Chapel will Pastor Steve Conner officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the start of the service. Burial will follow in Hickory Grove Cemetery.
