Obituary

Mercedes (Mimi) Ingram Brown entered heaven on December 27, 2024 at age 97 after a short illness. Mimi was born in Plant City, Florida, to Vera Olive Vining Ingram and Perry Ben Ingram on March 6, 1927. In June, 1945, she graduated from Andrew Jackson High School in Jacksonville, FL, where she was active in leadership in numerous clubs. She graduated from Florida Southern College in June, 1949 with a degree in education and married her high school sweetheart, Milton Brown, on January 29, 1950. They were married for 67 years until his death on June 3, 2017. Mimi worked in various schools around Florida wherever Miltons forestry jobs took the family, the last as guidance counselor at Bartow High School, Mimi having finished a masters degree in counseling at the University of Florida while they were based in Gainesville, FL. She and the family were active in church and other activities in each town where they lived. Mimi loved her family dearly and cared for many friends and acquaintances. She was one of the first to welcome new residents at their retirement village in Gainesville, FL. In her later years, she often engaged in deep conversations with the medical professionals who assisted her daily, recalling the names of each one who helped her.In addition to her parents and husband, Mimi was predeceased by her brother, Perry. She is survived by two daughters, Zanese Duncan (Emeral), Peachtree Corners, GA and Kalynn Matisco (Alex), Alachua, GA; three grandchildren: Cabe Duncan (Abby), Marietta, GA; Kara Pridgen (Mike), Wylie, TX; and Gaela Harris (Phil), Talking Rock, GA; and eight great-grandchildren: Tripp Harris, Nora Duncan, Quinn Harris, Jack Duncan, Sean Pridgen, Addison Pressly, Cullen Pressly, and Savannah Grace Pressly; as well as other extended family. Following a memorial service at Haven Hospice in Gainesville, Florida, graveside services will be held at 2:30 pm January 11, 2025, at Oak Grove Cemetery in Wildwood, FL, with burial to follow in the family plot. Memorial donations may be made to Warren Willis Camp and Conference Center, https://wwumccc.org/, a church camp where Mimi was one of the first summer staff members when it opened in the late 1940s near Leesburg, FL.The family would like to thank the staff of Oak Hammock Skilled Nursing and the staff at Haven Hospice for their care for Mimi, especially in the last year.
