Obituary

Mikel L. Flemming passed away on Easter Sunday, April 20 in Jacksonville, FL with his wife of 42 years by his side. He was born in Kermit, Texas on April 17, 1943 to Norma Dark. He was her oldest son. He graduated from Riverside Military Boarding Academy and went on to serve in the Marines. He was on the Marine Corps Golf Team. He became a PGA professional and tried to make touring his living. However, when his dream was unattainable he worked as a Golf Professional for several country clubs from California to Texas. He enjoyed teaching and sharing his love of the game with young and old. Always eager to learn, he earned his Masters in Literature at the University of North Texas. He shared a great love of literature with his wife sometimes guest teaching at the high school where she teaches English. He took up guitar in his retirement and practiced every day. He is survived by his wife Kinta and their children Jennifer Borth (Michael Borth- Knoxville, TN) and Matthew Neal Flemming (Ashley- Knoxville, TN) and brother Davy Payne. He was predeceased by his parents Norma Wright, LL Ashburn and brother Kelly Payne. Known as "Popi" and loved by his grandchildren, Madeline, Abigail, John, Samuel and Mackenzie. Services will be held Monday, April 28 at 3pm at the George Hewell and Son Funeral Home at 4140 University Blvd. S., Jacksonville, FL.
