Mrs. Millie S. Smith, 97, of Keystone Heights passed away in Gainesville, Sunday, June 7, 2015. She was born in Springfield, Massachusetts on March 6, 1918 to the late Francis P. and Jane (Asar) Scarano. She worked in the administrative office in the Pentagon and retired as a secretary from LP Gas. In 1965, she and her late husband had moved to Keystone Heights from St. Pete and became Parishioners of St. William Catholic Church in Keystone Heights where she was very active in many areas of the church. Mrs. Smiths husband, William E. Smith had preceded her in death along with her two daughters, Kathleen S. Brown and Carol S. Denny. Survivors are her daughter Jeanne Smith Kinsland and her husband Thomas of Gainesville; one sister, Mary Novicki of Silver Spring, Maryland; two grandsons, Christopher M. Brown (Amanda) of Gainesville and Timothy R. Brown (Stacy) of Lake Butler along with five great grandchildren. A vigil for Mrs. Smith will be at St. William Catholic Church on Tuesday, June 16, 2015 from 5- 6 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 17, 2015 also at St William Catholic Church with Father Mike Williams presiding. Interment will follow at Forest Meadows Cemetery Central in Gainesville at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Haven Hospice, 4200 NW 90th Blvd., Gainesville, FL 32606.
