Miss Mavis Dorothy "Dot" Kilgore

Mrs. Mavis Dorothy Kilgore age 88, passed away Monday, December 12, 2016 at her home in Lawtey following a brief illness. She was born on June 7, 1928 in Mitchell County Georgia to the late Clement E. and Nettie Lee (Sanders) Harden. "Miss Dot" as she was known to everyone was married to Donald J. Kilgore, Sr. on November 16, 1942 in Mitchell County, Georgia. The couple soon moved to Jacksonville where they raised their children. Mrs. Kilgore worked for the A & P Tea Company retiring after 21 years of service. In 1971 the couple retired to Lawtey to pursue their passion for a quitter way of life. Miss Dot was a member of Evergreen Baptist Church in Lawtey, an avid quilter and loved outdoor gardening. She will always be remembered for her home cooked meals and the pure enjoyment she received from always stepping up to help her family and friends. She will be truly missed. Preceding her in death was her husband of 58 years Donald J. Kilgore, Sr., siblings: Lera Harden Hill, Ida Will Robinson, DeWitt Harden, Clifford Harden, Pickett Harden and Verlen Harden. Survivors are: her children: Elaine Kilgore Johnston (Thomas E. Johnston deceased) of Ft. White, Donald J. Kilgore, Jr. (Sandra) of Lawtey, grandchildren: Natalie Lamborghini (Pete), Thomas E. Johnston, III (Jonelle) all of Tampa, Donald J. Kilgore, III (Sylvette) and Lori Kilgore Eagle (Craig) all of Jacksonville. Also left behind are her great grandchildren: Lauren Johnston Grover, Jordan Johnston Wells both of Grove City, Ohio, Melanie Petrillo of St. Petersburg, Madison Lamborghini, Peter Lamborghini, Angelina Lamborghini, Mykenzi Johnston, Dallas Johnston all of Tampa, Alyssa Kilgore, Dyllon Kilgore, Brooke Eagle, and Jacob Eagle all of Jacksonville, great-great grandson: Kade Alexander Grover of Grove City, Ohio. The family will receive friends at Evergreen Baptist Church on Friday, December 16, 2016 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am with funeral services beginning at 11 oclock. Interment will be at 3:00 pm in Oaklawn Cemetery, 4801 San Jose Blvd. in Jacksonville. Arrangements are by JONES-GALLAGHER FUNERAL HOME OF STARKE 904-964-6200.
