Mr. Gene Roland
Murphy, Sr. Age 83 Of Starke
Aug 2, 1941 — Apr 9, 2026
Mr. Gene Roland Murphy, Sr., age 83 of Starke passed away Thursday, April 9, 2026, in Gainesville. He was born on August 2, 1942, in Wildwood to Charlie and Martha Murphy.
Gene proudly served as a Sergeant at New River Correctional Institution for 22 years. A devoted member of Bible Baptist Church, he led the singing and delighted everyone with his musical talents, often playing the washboard. Gene was a true family man, finding joy in life's simple pleasures—whether it was cooking up flavorful meals with a dash of spice, tending to his garden, or spending time with loved ones. His infectious smile and warm presence made him beloved by all who knew him.
Gene's love for life extended to many things. He loved God above all else, and his faith was the foundation of his life. He enjoyed the challenge of word searches, the nostalgia of old westerns, and the majesty of eagles soaring through the sky. Gene's passions were as vast and varied as his love for family and friends.
In addition to his parents, Gene was also preceded in death by his siblings David, Stanley, Voncile, Steve, Joyce, and Harvey. Left behind to cherish his memory is his loving and devoted wife of 62 years next month, Faith (Hodges) Murphy, and their children, Theresa Trainor (Raymond), Martha Roberts, and Gene Murphy, Jr., along with a sister, Crystal Olive. He was lovingly called "Papa" by grandchildren Heather, Ashley, Casey, Austin, Mitchell, and Gavin along with great grandchildren Layla, Michael, Natalie, Maverick, Emily, and Tyson.
The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 a.m. for the viewing, Thursday, April 16, 2026 at First Baptist Church of Keystone Heights.
Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m., with Brother Roger Worten officiating. Interment will follow at 3:00 p.m. at Macedonia Cemetery in Macclenny.
Arrangements are under the care of JONES-GALLAGHER FUNERAL HOME, 620 E. Nona St., Starke, FL 32091. (904) 964-6200. www.jonesgallagherfh.com.
