Mr. Leon Eugene Carter Sr.

Mr. Leon "Buddy" Eugene Carter, Sr., 86 of Keystone Heights, passed away Thursday, July 12, 2018 in Penney Farms. Mr. Carter was born August 5, 1931 in San Mateo, California to parents Leon Anders and Ruth Lavada (Chestnut) Carter. Leon was a professional baseball player and was signed with the New York Yankees after graduating from Lee High School. After his baseball career, he became an insurance executive. He was a member of Central Baptist Church of Crossville, Tennessee and belonged to the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother Clinton Carter. Surviving him are his wife, Lynell (Townsend) Carter of Keystone Heights, children, Leon Carter, Jr. of Keystone Heights, Alan Carter of Alabama, Nancy Lishen of Mandarin, Brenda Carter of Taiwan, and Pamela (Berny) Zellner of Alabama, sister, Ruth Burgett (Larry), brother, Richard Carter (Donna), 12 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Memorial Services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 28, 2018 at Penney Memorial Church, 4465 Poling Boulevard, Penney Farms.
