Myrtle Johns Alvarez

Myrtle Johns Alvarez, age 95, of Starke, FL passed away September 20, 2020. She grew up in Lawtey, FL and then moved to the Water Oak section of Bradford County as an adult. Mrs. Alvarez was born to the late Purvy B. and Verda Barber Johns, on August 20, 1925. She was always a hard worker and a valued employee. In addition to being a homemaker, she was employed at King Edward Cigar Factory, Big Dad Clothing Manufacturing and General Electric at Hague, FL.She was married for 62 years to the late Harold A. Alvarez. She was the last surviving charter member of Northside Baptist Church in Starke, FL where she loved serving and singing in the choir. She enjoyed cooking for and spending time with her family. She was known for her sweet, gentle spirit and for her bright smile.She is survived by her children, Gregory Alvarez (Kris) of Starke, FL, Jimmy Alvarez (Sandra) of Starke, FL, and Lisa Rodgers (late Paul Rodgers) of Starke. She has six grandchildren, Whitney Harrell (Lee), Jesse Alvarez (Kayla), Kiley Alvarez, Lacy Alvarez (Melissa), Dylan Rodgers and Lainie Rodgers. She has three great-grandchildren, Grady, Huck and Luke. The family will receive friends at Northside Baptist Church on Friday, September 25, 2020 from 10:30 to 11:30 AM with funeral services beginning at 11:30.
