Mytzi Ellen Saunders

Dr. Mytzi Ellen Saunders, 87, passed away May 10, 2020. Dr. Saunders was born June 14, 1932 in Jacksonville, Florida to parents Harry and Carrie (Prevatt) Taylor. Mytzi was reared in Middleburg and graduated from Clay High School in 1950. She earned her Masters Degree and Doctorate Degree from Jacksonville Theological Seminary. Mytzi and her husband, Rev. James Chalker Saunders, were residents of Penney Farms for over 50 years where she served as U.S. Postmaster for many years. She and Rev. Saunders were active in many local churches. Mytzi was also involved with the Council on Aging and other community associations. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Chalker Saunders and siblings, Charles Taylor, Christine Blackwelder, Patsy Sapp and Dennis Taylor. Survivors are her brother Harry Taylor and children Deborah Kloke (Allen), James Saunders, Jr. (Lisa), Angela Ryan (Jim), Karey Saunders, Jonathan Saunders (Martha), sixteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Mytzi and James cared for many foster children including one special foster daughter, Cathy Wilkinson. No funeral services will be held at this time.
