A funeral service for Nina M. Powell 93, of Jacksonville, Florida will be held on August 9, 2023 at 11:30AM in the chapel of George H. Hewell and Son Funeral Home, 4140 University Boulevard South, Jacksonville, Florida 32216 with Chaplain Brent Beaird officiating. Nina passed away on August 2 and will be buried next to her late husband Odell Thomas Powell, Sr. in the Jacksonville National Cemetery. Nina is predeceased by her son, Odell Thomas Powell, Jr. She is survived by her son, Ronald Wayne Powell (Diana) of Albuquerque, New Mexico; daughter, Robin Powell Tharpe (Kingsley) of St. Augustine, Florida; two grandsons; Ryan Thomas Powell (Morgan) of San Rafael, California and Taylor Brett Powell (Sarah) of Miami, Florida; one great-grandson, Brooks Thomas Clifford Powell of San Rafael, California and one great-granddaughter, Gianna James Powell of Miami, Florida.Nina was born and grew up in Darien Georgia, married Odell and spent most of her early life in Savannah, Georgia raising their family. Nina and Odell moved to Jacksonville in 1975 to live and worked there until retirement. Nina worked in the florist industry, The Haskell Company and Fleet Landing. She loved sports, especially football, following the Georgia Bulldogs and Jacksonville Jaguars. Nina enjoyed cooking, especially for her family. She will be missed dearly.Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at George H. Hewell and Son Funeral Home.
