Opal Marie Palmer MacDougall passed away May 27, 2024, after a long and happy life. She was 102 years old. She was born May 4, 1922, in Brazil, Iowa to Nelson Raymond Palmer and Janet Wilma Lowe Palmer. In 1926 the family moved to Mount Carmel, Pennsylvania where Opal completed her schooling. During World War II Opal moved to Baltimore, MD to work "on the assembly line" in the defense industry at Bendix Radio. She married Stewart Charles MacDougall in 1942 - a marriage that lasted 68 years. Upon Stewarts return from War Service, they moved to Hyattsville, MD and Opal began working at the National Forest Products Association as a file clerk and after 46 years of progress retired as Executive Assistant to the Executive Vice President. The MacDougalls moved to the Villages of West End, Newberry, Florida in 1991 where they enjoyed a full and happy life. Opal dearly loved all of her family, especially son Stewart Charles MacDougall, II; Daughter-in-law Sharon Groninger MacDougall and Grandson Kyle Andrew MacDougall. She was predeceased by her parents and siblings: Theda Gwen Palmer Wagner; Jackson Lowe Palmer and Robert Nelson Palmer. Opal was an accomplished China painter and loved all card games. She was a world-wide traveler and never heard of a good trip that she didnt sign up for.She was a lifelong Methodist and was a member of Grace Methodist Church.She will be interred at Bushnell National Cemetery alongside her husband Stewart. There will be a Funeral Service at Forest Meadows on Saturday, June 8th at 10AM. A Celebration of Life will be held following the service at the Villages of West Clubhouse from 1-3 PM.In remembrance of Opals life and love, the family asks that any charitable donations be made to Oak Hammock at the University of Florida.
