Listen to Obituary
Patricia "Pat" Patterson Heaton, 89, widow of James "Bernard" Heaton, Sr. a loving Wife, Mother, and Grandmother went home to Heaven on September 11, 2020. Patricia was born in Gainesville, GA and never missed a chance to tell everyone she knew about her love for all things GA. She met the love of her life when she was 14 years old during a trip to her familys summer home in New Smyrna, FL. Their love story became one for the ages, and during the latter years of her life, when her memory wasnt quite what it used to be, if you mentioned her "Bernard" she would take you right back to the memories of $0.50 dates, military balls, and stories of their first kiss.Pat dedicated her life to her family, and her favorite hobby was cooking, it was her mission to make sure that nobody ever left her home hungry. "Can I fix you something to eat" was her favorite words to say and we all had our favorites that only Mom/Grandma could make. Her four children were her world, and being a mom was her greatest accomplishment, she was so proud of each of them. When her "grandbabies" and "great grandbabies" came along, her heart grew along with her dining room table and having everyone together sharing a meal was something that made her smile the biggest smile. In addition to dedicating her life to family, she had a strong love for Jesus. She was a devoted member of South Jacksonville Baptist Church and Sundays were spent singing her favorite hymns and reading the bible.Patricia is survived by her four children: JB Heaton Jr. (Penny), Carl Heaton (Roni), Tom Heaton (Darcy) and Katherine Hand. Nine grandchildren: Corey, Jason, Danny, Caroline, Kristen, Jessica, Carla Michelle, Nikki and Melissa, as well as 16 great-grandchildren.She leaves behind a wonderful legacy, and although we will miss her dearly, we know that she is in the arms of Jesus and finally went on a long-awaited date with her Bernard.A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday September 15th from the graveside, at 10:00 AM in Greenlawn Cemetery 4300 Beach Blvd. Jacksonville, FL 32207.Funeral Arrangements are under the direction of George H. Hewell and Son Funeral Homes, 4140 University Boulevard, South where the family will receive friends from 6-7PM, Monday.
