Peggie Underwood McCubbin Peggie Underwood McCubbin passed away on Monday, September 17,2012 at All Saints' Catholic Nursing Home in Jacksonville, Florida. Peggie was born on March 9, 1914 in Athens, Georgia to Nannie Rose Underwood and Thomas H. Underwood. Peggie moved to Jacksonville at the age of 12 attending John Gorrie Jr. High and graduating from Robert E. Lee High School in 1932. She received her Bachelor of Science in Education from Florida State College for Women in 1938. She received her Master of Education from the University of Florida in 1952, where she was 1 of 14 selected from Jacksonville for membership in Phi Kappa Phi, the National Honorary Scholastic Fraternity.Peggie taught in the Duval County School System for 39 years including Ruth N. Upson, Bayview, Hyde Park, Normandy and Lake Forest elementary schools, retiring as principal of Lake Forest in 1973. She was a member of the Florida Retired Educators Association, the Duval County Retired Teachers Association, held a Life Membership in the National Education Association and worked with the Wolfson Children's Hospital Auxiliary. Peggie met her beloved husband, Robert H. McCubbin and they were married on April 12, 1941, at the Riverside Presbyterian Church in Jacksonville. They had a long and happy life together until his sudden death on December 4, 1990.Peggie was predeceased by her parents, husband Robert, brother Thomas C. Underwood and step-sister Tennie Cantrell. Peggie is survived by her nephews J. Lance McCubbin (Cathy), Bryceville, E. Lee McCubbin, Jr. (Nell), Jacksonville, niece and goddaughter Mary Ann McCubbin, Salisbury, N.C, nephew Thomas Underwood (Misty), Griffin, Georgia, godchildren Beth Gorman and Michael Redding, both of Jacksonville.Peggie was an 8 year resident of All Saints Nursing Home, North Wing, where she was cared for with love, compassion, kindness and respect by all who worked there. The family is so thankful for the wonderful care Peggie was given and for the love shown to them over the years. Her final days were spent at All Saints with the assistance of Northeast Florida Community Hospice who also worked to make sure she received the utmost care and support. Arrangements are under the direction of George H.
