Peggy Joyce Baughn

Peggy Joyce Baughn, 80, of Jacksonville, Florida, passed away on January 2, 2019.A native of Calvin, Virginia, Peggy moved with her family to Washington D.C. in 1954 at the age of 15. She graduated from Anacostia High School, where she served as captain of her basketball team and wrote for the school newspaper, the Wigwam. In her youth, she worked for F.W.Woolworths Five & Dime and the FBI.In 1959, Peggy married Jerry Rale Baughn. While living in the Washington D.C. area, they had three children: Debbie, Jerry Jr., and Dana. In 1982, after Jerrys retirement, they moved to Jacksonville, Florida. Peggy was a member of the Spring Glen United Methodist Church and worked for H&R Block for over 25 years as a tax preparer, manager, and instructor.Peggy enjoyed music, dancing, and watching football; she especially enjoyed rooting for her beloved Jaguars and Redskins. More than anything, however, Peggy loved being a dedicated wife, mom, and grandma.She is preceded in death by her devoted and cherished husband, Jerry; parents Robert and Ruth Boone; siblings Robert Boone, Dorothy (Boone) Brickey and James "Ron" Boone. She is survived by her children Debra Baughn Stanley (Richard), Jerry Rale Baughn Jr. (Jane), and Dana Regina Baughn; her grandchildren Christopher Stanley, Allison Stanley, Jerry Baughn III, Brandon Baughn, and Joseph Baughn; her great-granddaughter Avery Baughn; and her sister Julia Boone-Spaulding (Kathy).A visitation for family and friends will be held between 6 and 8 p.m. on Friday, January 11, 2019 at George H. Hewell and Son Funeral Home, 4140 University Boulevard South, Jacksonville, FL 32216.Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at 11 a.m. at Spring Glen United Methodist Church, 6007 Beach Boulevard, Jacksonville, FL 32216.
