Phillip David "Phil" Hayes

Mr. Phillip David Hayes, age 81, a longtime resident of Windsor Manor in Starke died Tuesday, November 26, 2019, succumbed to a short illness which was complicated by lasting effects from a stroke that occurred in 2009. He was born March 24, 1938, in Asbury, West Virginia to Michael Curtis and Mae Christine (Zicafoose) Hayes. He served in the U.S. Army for 10 years and worked many years in road and bridge construction working on the New River Gorge Bridge in Fayetteville, West Virginia. He then moved to Florida in 1981 and retired from the Department of Corrections. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by a sister Irma Hayes and a granddaughter Kelsey Mann. Mr. Hayes is survived by his daughter Tina Hayes Mann (Sammie) of Lake Butler and grandchildren Danita Dowdy (Derrick) of Starke, Wesley Mann and Alyssa Mann both of Lake Butler along with a great granddaughter Kamrey Dowdy of Starke. Also left behind is his brother Curtis "Spike" Hayes (Ellie) of Paden City, West Virginia; a sister Sarah Ingles (Bill) of Lewisburg, West Virginia; two nieces and four nephews all of West Virginia. Viewing for Mr. Hayes will be held Tuesday, December 3, 2019, beginning at 11:00 a.m. in the Fellowship Baptist Church in Raiford. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 p.m. with Dr. Harold Hudson officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Zion Swiftcreek Cemetery in Lake Butler.
