Rachel Marie Quiones

Rachel Marie Quiones, 27 of Fleming Island, passed away Thursday, July 19, 2018 at UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville. Rachel was born September 27, 1990 in Brandon, Florida to parents Herbert J. and Regina B. Quiones. She was a proud member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Fleming Island. Rachel received her Bachelor's Degree in History and American studies, Summa Cum Laude, from the College of William & Mary in Virginia and on this past Saturday, July 14, she graduated with a Master's Degree in Education from the University of Notre Dame in Indiana where she received a beautiful standing ovation. She worked at the Cummer Museum of Art in Jacksonville where she relished in giving tours and presentations. She was a High School teacher for Bishop Snyder in Jacksonville and taught at St. Joseph's Academy in Brownsville, Texas where she taught middle school geography, and high school history and art history. Survivors are her parents, Herbert and Regina of Fleming Island, and her sister Rebecca Quiones of Brighton, MA and her beloved extended family and absolutely beautiful friends. Rachel was an avid volunteer which included doing mission work in St. Louis for a summer, volunteering at Camp Boggey Creek for teenage girls with AIDs, and went on countless mission trips around the country.The family requests in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to The Rachel Quiones Memorial Scholarship Fund which will send a deserving female student to attend St. Joseph's Academy in Brownsville for four years. A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 26, 2018 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Fleming Island.
